An Angolan Company, MPCP Investment Limited, has expressed interest to construct an international standard road from Solwezi to Jimbe border post in Ikelenge district of North-Western Province.
MPCP Investment Limited is proposing a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to build, operate and transfer the Solwezi to Jimbe border post road.
MPCP Investment Limited Chairperson MARCO PINHERIO says his company is a multi-trading company and in construction, it is specialised in building roads, buildings, telecommunication towers, maintenance, and rehabilitation of buildings.
Speaking when a delegation led by Angolan Ambassador to Zambia, AZEVEDO FRANCISCO met Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development Minister, CHARLES MILUPI in Lusaka today, Mr. PINHERIO said his company can execute the project effectively and to the satisfaction of the Zambian government.
And Mr. MILUPI said construction of the Solwezi to Jimbe border post road is government’s top priority.
He said providing this connectivity will not only strengthen existing relations but also foster trade because Zambia has a lot of products that are needed in Angola and so is true with Angola.
Mr. MILUPI however cautioned Edenvale Investment Limited to quickly reach the financial closure if it succeeds in getting the contract.
He said this is because some PPPs delay because concessionaires take long to reach financial closures.
And Project Promoter, MUNA HANTUBA said he is assured that Edenvale Investment can carry out the project.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s Ambassador to Angola, LAWRENCE CHALUNGUMANA said once the road is constructed Zambia will be able to import cheap oil from Angola while Angola will be able to import Maize from Zambia which currently it is importing from countries like Brazil.
This is according to a statement released to ZNBC News by Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Public Relations Officer JEFF BANDA.
